It also fits well on a smaller chain and / or on pearls / beads. This item allows you to add pendants that have smaller bails onto necklaces such as wide Herringbones, Omegas and pearls / beads 

Works best with pendants that have a "O" ring style bail (see picture)

Does not work with pendants that have an East/West Bail, unless it is used with a split ring

It also can serve as a shortener / gatherer for pearls or beads. It allows you to use a necklace after a clasp breaks by attaching this piece as a clasp
